About

The Pekingese is an ancient toy dog breed famous for its luxurious coat, flat face, and proud, royal personality. Originating in ancient China, Pekingese dogs were highly treasured by Chinese royalty and often lived in imperial palaces as cherished companion animals. Their elegant appearance and confident demeanor continue to make them popular companion dogs worldwide.

Pekingese have a compact body with a long flowing double coat, large expressive eyes, and a distinctive lion-like mane around the neck and shoulders. Their coat comes in a wide variety of colors including gold, cream, black, white, sable, gray, and parti-color combinations. Despite their small size, they carry themselves with confidence and dignity.

This breed is affectionate and deeply loyal to its family but may sometimes display an independent or stubborn personality. Pekingese are generally calm dogs that enjoy relaxing indoors and spending time close to their owners. They are intelligent but may require patient and consistent training using gentle positive reinforcement.

Pekingese require moderate daily exercise such as short walks and indoor play sessions. Due to their flat-faced structure, they can be sensitive to heat and overexertion. Their long coat also requires regular brushing and grooming to prevent tangles and matting.
