About

The Birman, often called the "Sacred Cat of Burma," is a beautiful and affectionate breed admired for its luxurious silky coat, striking sapphire-blue eyes, and unique white-gloved paws. Despite its long fur, the Birman's coat lacks a dense undercoat, making it less prone to matting and easier to maintain than many long-haired breeds.

Medium to large in size, Birmans have a sturdy, muscular body with a broad head, rounded ears, and a full, bushy tail. Their colorpoint pattern gradually develops as kittens mature, while their signature white "gloves" on each paw remain one of the breed's defining characteristics.

Birmans are known for their calm, gentle, and affectionate personalities. They enjoy spending time with their families, following their owners from room to room, and happily curling up beside them. While playful and curious, they are generally quieter and less demanding than many other active breeds.

Highly adaptable, Birmans get along exceptionally well with children, other cats, and cat-friendly dogs. They enjoy interactive toys and gentle play sessions but are equally content relaxing indoors with their favorite people.

The Birman cat price in India typically ranges between ₹30,000 to ₹60,000 depending on breeder quality, lineage, and location. Monthly maintenance costs range from ₹3,500 to ₹8,500 including food and healthcare.

Fun Facts

  • According to legend, the Birman's beautiful blue eyes and white-gloved paws were gifts from a golden-eyed goddess after a loyal temple cat courageously protected its fallen priest, giving rise to the breed's mystical appearance.
  • If you love Ragdoll cats, you have the Birman to thank! The Ragdoll breed was originally developed in the 1960s by crossing Birman and Persian-type cats.
